Mayor Gerard Neugebauer Names Karol Brown the City of Green’s 2023 Volunteer of the Year

GREEN, OH – At the City of Green’s annual Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast, Mayor Gerard Neugebauer honored long-time Green resident Karol Brown as the City’s 2023 Volunteer of the Year.

Karol, a resident since 1988, picks up litter along Green streets during her daily 5 mile walks, something she has done for more than a decade. In addition, Brown and her husband Paul Brown also volunteer at a local food pantry in Canton once a month.

According to her husband, Karol doesn’t like trash laying around and she is the type of person who is always doing things for other people.

“Karol is the type of volunteer who just does what needs done to make her community better,” said Gerard Neugebauer. “She doesn’t pick up trash along the road for recognition or log her volunteer hours, she just does want she believes is the right thing to do. If only we all were a bit more like Karol.”

Approximately 90 people attended the annual breakfast on Saturday, October 28 at Central Park Community Hall to celebrate volunteerism in Green.  Each year the city has more than 200 volunteers who collectively log an estimated 1,800 volunteer hours for city sponsored events and programs.
