GREEN, OH – City of Green student municipal representatives will host a voter registration event Monday, August 8 from 5 to 7pm in Central Park Community Hall, 1795 Steese Road, Uniontown (Green).  The voter registration event is a joint effort between current and former student municipal representatives who believe that voting is not just a right, but a civic responsibility.

Now in its seventh year, more than 80 students have participated in Green’s student municipal program designed to provide real-life exposure to local government.  Motivated by the energy produced by seeing the value of their contributions and participating in meaningful interaction with city leaders, students approached city administration about organizing a voter registration event. They are also motivated by the fact that many of them have just become or are soon to be voting age.

“After spending time witnessing local government up close, I felt that the November 8 midterms were a perfect time to encourage other teens to become involved by registering to vote!” said Shareen Awadallah, Green resident and 2022 graduate of the Green Student Municipal Representative program.

“Our hope is that this our student rep program will produce students who are inspired to community leadership,” said Mayor Gerard Neugebauer. “That hope has certainly been realized and I’m honored to support their efforts to encourage their peers to vote.   This is a key tenant of our democracy.”

The August 8 event is designed for teens who will be 18 by November 8 and all others 18+ looking to be engaged in local, state and national government.  Information about candidates on the November 8 midterm election ballot will be available.  Refreshments will be served, and the event is open to the public.
