City of Green Honors Bev Fry as Volunteer of the Year at Annual Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast
Green, OH – Mayor Gerard Neugebauer and the City of Green honored Bev Fry as the Volunteer of the Year at the annual Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast held on Saturday, November 6. The annual breakfast is held for all City of Green volunteers who donate a minimum of two hours of service to the City within the last two years.
Following breakfast, Mayor Gerard Neugebauer honored Bev Fry, a Green resident, who like many embodied the spirit of the Green Together volunteer movement enacted in response to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Green Together began as a city volunteer program to reach out to those in need during the pandemic lockdown in late spring 2020. Volunteers, like Bev, were called upon to call our seniors to just be a friendly voice on the phone once a week. In fact, Bev and her senior she called as part of the Green Together program have developed a friendship that continues today.
In total, more than 173 Green Together volunteers gave back to their community throughout the pandemic making more than 7,160 senior courtesy calls, creating more than 7,000 homemade masks, and helping with mask delivery and our twice annual food drive.
“In addition to Bev’s volunteer service that went above and beyond this past year, she has been a long time volunteer to our parks and recreation division as well as a number of local charity organizations,” said Gerard Neugebauer, City of Green mayor.
Each year more than 350 volunteers offer their time and service to our City. Volunteers included individuals, groups, and those who serve on City boards, commissions and task forces. More than 70 volunteers attended the annual Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast.
