City of Green Seeks 300 Households to Participate in 6-month Yard Waste Curbside Pickup Pilot Program

Green, OH – The City of Green is seeking 300 households to participate in a six-month yard waste curbside pickup pilot program from mid-July through early December 2021.  The pilot program is designed to help the City of Green evaluate alternative options for yard waste disposal other than to a landfill.

“The purpose of the pilot program is to determine the usage and process of weekly yard waste curbside pick-up to determine if we should roll-out a Citywide program with our current trash provider,” said Valerie Wax Carr. “Our residents have expressed an interest in yard waste disposal that is environmentally friendly versus just adding to a landfill. We hope this pilot program and the feedback we receive from it provides us with a solid plan for offering this to more residents in 2022.”

Households that sign up to participate will receive a 96-gallon Republic cart that is designed specifically for yard waste with proper ventilation panels. The carts will be picked up on Tuesdays in the City of Green.  Residents who participate are asked to share feedback throughout the six-months on how the program is working for them.  The pilot program is FREE for those who register. The pilot program is being paid by grant funding.

A full rollout to the City, if determined appropriate, will be an elective add-on to Green household’s Republic Waste Services contracts. The cost is yet to be determined and will be a part of the research gathered from the pilot program.

To participate in the program, registration is required by contacting the City of Green’s Service Department at 330-896-4176 or through an online form at

Currently yard waste may be brought to the City of Green Recycle Center, 5383 Massillon Road, during recycle center hours. Yard waste may also be placed in Republic trash carts; however, all yard waste in Republic trash cans is not composed and does end up in the landfill.
