City of Green Parks and Recreation Partners with Green YMCA to Offer Silver Sneakers Fitness Classes

City of Green Parks and Recreation Partners with Green YMCA to Offer Silver Sneakers Fitness Classes and Walking Club at the John Torok Senior Center beginning June 1


Green, OH – The City of Green is pleased to partner with the Green YMCA to offer six senior fitness classes weekly through Silver Sneakers at the John Torok Senior Center, 4224 Massillon Road. The classes, geared for adults 50+, are Monday through Thursdays beginning June 1.  Classes are free to attend. No registration required.

“In response to our older residents’ desires for more fitness and social programming in Green, we are pleased to partner with the Green Branch YMCA to provide quality senior programming, led by seasoned fitness professionals,” said Valerie Wax Carr, Service Director for the City of Green. “I encourage our active Green adults to join in and try a free class today.”

Current Class offerings*:


  • Silver Sneakers Yoga. 9 a.m. – 9:45 a.m. A chair-based yoga that focuses on increasing flexibility.           
  • Silver Sneakers Classic. 10 a.m. -10:45 a.m. A chair-based class that use hand weights and fitness ball.  All equipment provided.  


  • Beginner Vinyasa Yoga. 10 a.m. -10:45 a.m. Modifications available for all fitness levels. Classes will be held outside during nice weather. Participants should bring their own yoga mat. 


  • Green Active Adult Toning.  8:30 a.m.-9:15 a.m.  Light weights and strength training from a chair or standing. 


  • Self-Defense Class. 9 a.m. -9:45 a.m. A fitness class that also teaches self-defense skills. 
  • Walking Club. 10:30-11:15 a.m. 

All Silver Sneakers classes are offered free, paid for by most insurances including Medicare. Those attending, if not already enrolled in Silver Sneakers, will be enrolled by fitness staff at the first class. While geared to older adults, all ages are eligible.  There is no cost regardless of eligibility of Silver Sneakers membership.
