Celebrating 30 Years
On April 5, 1992, following certification by the Board of Elections verifying that the Village had 5,000+ registered voters participate in the November 1991 General Election, the Village of Green was officially declared a City by then Secretary of State, Bob Taft.

- April 5, 1992 - Secretary of State Bob Taft declared Green a City
- The City employed 63 full and part-time employees
- First Memorial Day Parade held.
- Income tax revenues for were $537,678.

1993
- City Charter, voted on in November 1992, takes effect on January 1, 1993. Created the departments of finance, planning, service, law, safety and parks and recreation (verify). Also created 7 council members - 3 at-Large, 4 Wards - previously there were 5 council positions. One percent income tax enacted with 10% being allocated to Parks capital.
1995
- City council created an engineering department for the City.
1996
- Green High School, 1474 Boettler Road, was completed.
1997
- Boettler Park opened
- First Trick or Treat Trail held at Boettler Park
1998
- Brenda Fargo, mayor from October 1998 to December 31, 1999
- First Long-Range Land Use Plan developed.
- Freda Hunter Bates, mayor, from January 1, 1998 to October 1998
- Kreighbaum Park and Greensburg Park opened
2000
- Built the concession facility at Greensburg Park with the sponsorship from Coca-Cola
- Construction on The Chapel of Green began
- Interchange at Massillon Road and I-77 reconstructed
- Mayor Dan Croghan takes office
- Summa Health System and Green Family YMCA opened
2001
- FedEx Custom Critical moved to Green
- Fire Station Number 2 was built on SR619/Turkeyfoot Lake Road
- Intersection of SR 619 and Massillon Road widened
- Massillon Road from Boettler Road to Graybill Road widened
2002
- Heritage Hill Playground at Boettler Park was built by more than 400 community volunteers
- Lowe's Home Improvement selected location on Arlington Road
- Raber Road reconstructed with additional turn lanes at Massillon Road
- Retirement Residence of Green was constructed
2003
- The 1885 Lichtenwalter Schoolhouse at Boettler Park was restored
- Boettler Park restroom facilities added
- Corporate Woods Parkway extended to Tabs Drive
- Green Memorial Stadium renovated
- Main Street reconstructed and widened at the intersection of SR 619
2004
- Added 1.2 mile walking path at Boettler Park
- First Annual Art-A-Palooza held at Boettler Park
- Long range Land use plan updated
- Mayor Dan Croghan takes office for his second term
- Sheetz gas station and convenience store was constructed at the corner of SR 619 and Massillon Road
2005
- Cambria Suites, Hilton Garden Inn and Holiday Inn Express began construction
- City acquired Southgate Park
- Consolidated emergency dispatch services with Coventry, Springfield, Lakemore and Uniontown
- East Liberty park opened
- Greensburg Park playground added
- Intersection at Lauby Road and I-77 widened
- Parks and Recreation Board and City Council accepted 5/10 year Master Plan for Green's Parks
2006
- Addition to Green High School, 1474 Boettler Road, completed
- Arlington Ridge Marketplace/Target Plaza was constructed on Arlington Road
- Green Primary School, 2300 Graybill Road, constructed
- Greensburg and Massillon Road intersection widened
2007
- Entered into an agreement with the Ohio Division of Wildlife to manage the lakes and wildlife at Southgate Park
- First Annual Freedomfest held at Boettler Park
- First Annual Holiday Pops Concert
2008
- City's bond rating was raised to an AA rating from Standard and Poor's
- Entered into agreement with Summit County mounted patrol to house horses at Southgate Park
- The extension of Fortuna Drive to the Spring Hill Sports Complex opened
- First Christmas in the park held at Boettler Park; later becomes Christmas-at-Town-Park
- First year for the Halloween Haunted Hayrides through Southgate Park
- Green Memorial Stadium turf was installed
- Mayor Dick Norton takes office
- Reconstruction of Steese Road and Shriver Road intersection completed
- Six-miles of bike and hike lanes added to Christman Road
- Spring Hill Sports Complex, state-of-the-art soccer and sports complex, completed
- Strategic Plan for City of Green created with four key initiatives - Parks and Recreation, Economic Development, Transportation and Connectivity, and Safety
2009
- Ariss Park with its three tackle fields and two flag and practice football fields opened
- The first season of the Green Farmers Market opened at Boettler Park
- The first two-lane roundabout in Summit County completed 15 days ahead of schedule
- Freda Hunter Bates Pavilion at Boettler Park and East Liberty Park Pavilion opened
- Grand opening of the new Central Administration Building. The City and School Administrations moved into their shared facility

- Mayor Norton presented the first ever Distinguished Business Award to Diebold for its 150 years in business
- New City of Green website, community and business e-newsletters launched
- Phase 2 of the Massillon Road Corridor completed
- Progressive Insurance moved to Green
2010
- Akron General broke ground on its new Akron General Health and Wellness Center in Green
- Arlington Road Corridor Project season 1 to be completed. Intersection of Arlington Road and SR 619 widening to be completed
- CAK Runway 5/23 extension was completed in November 2010. The runaway was extended from 7,600 feet to 8,200 feet for a cost of $60 million
- Green resident Mary Taylor elected to Lieutenant Governor of the State of Ohio
- Green Veterans Memorial Park to be dedicated on November 11, 2010
- Kovatch Castings broke ground on its expansion. The company received a $1 million grant to complete the expansion. An estimated 40 jobs are expected to be added once completed
- Population of Green, according to the 2010 census, is 25,669
- Ritzman Pharmacy opened at the corner of Massillon and Graybill Roads
- The second season of the Green Farmers Market opened in its new location in the Summa Health System parking lot
- Spring Hill Sports Complex and Ariss Park Concession and Restroom Facilities added
2011
- Arlington Road corridor widening completed
- Both Akron General Health and Wellness Center and Summa Health System began construction on new emergency room and health care facilities
- CAK achieved its highest passenger rate year with more than 1.6 million passengers
- The City employs 128 employees
- City of Green launched its Facebook page
- InfoCision moved to its new location on Massillon Road
2012
- City collaborates with auto dealers to market the Green Auto Mile
- City commemorates it's 20th anniversary with a painting by local Green artist, Ron Beahn
- City receives AA+ credit rating for general obligation bonds
- Green Veterans Memorial Park wins OPRA Governor's Award, the highest award given each year
- Mayor Norton begins his second term of office
2013
- Added a new restroom facility at Boettler Park
- Buehler's opened its first Summit County store
- The City organized the first Green Gives Back Community Food Drive
- Giant Eagle converted its store into a Market District
- Team Living Green, now known as the Living Green Task Force, formed
2014
- ACME Fresh Market opened in Green
- The First Profession Building, home to Children's Hospital Pediatrics and Crystal Clinic, opened
- Global Gateway, a 1.1 mile extension to Greensburg Road, opened
- Green Fire Division celebrates 75th anniversary to serving the Green community
- Green Village Nursing Home, on Moore Road, opened tis 72-bed rehabilitation and short-term care center
- The Twisted Olive, a Gervasi property, opens in the former Belden Lodge in Southgate Park
2015
- East Liberty Schoolhouse is saved from demolition and moved to its new location on Arlington Road
- First State of Historic Preservation meeting held in October
- Lauby Road and Greensburg roundabout, the second in the City, opened
- Patriot Playground at the Green Veterans Park opened

2016
- Central Park, Green's 10th park, opens on July 9, 2016.
- Completed the new Heritage Hill Playground with the help of more than 100 volunteers.
- First Living Green Community grant awarded.
- Green's Drug Task Force organizes.
- Greensburgh Manor, a 50-unit independent living senior housing facility, opened.
- The Lichtenwalter Schoolhouse was destroyed by arson on August 9.
- Mayor Gerard Neugebauer takes office.
- Project Tangerine, a volunteer initiative, launches.
- Steese Road multi-purpose trail and Portage Lakes Career Center trail opened, connecting more than 700 homes to central Green.
2017
- Green launches its GO (Green Outreach Team) to help those with addiction.
- Drug overdoses reduce from 83 in 2016 to 60 in 2017.
- Launched the Student Municipal Representative program to seat high school students on our various boards and commissions.
- Dedicated the Green First Responders Monument on September 11, 2017, with more than 300 people in attendance. The final phase of the Green Veterans Park was paid in part by donations of more than $90,000.
2018
- Completed the Pickle Road/SR619 roundabout
- Purchased Raintree Golf and Event Center, 4350 Mayfair Road, for $3.3 million without taking on new debt
- Acquired 20 acres of park land adjacent to Boettler and Southgate Parks as part of the Nexus Pipeline $7.5 million settlement
- September: Created four Pickleball Courts, the first dedicated Pickleball Courts in Summit County, at Boettler Park
- Launched our inaugural class of Green Community Leadership Initiative with 16 class members
- Green becomes a Tree City USA and hosts our first Arbor Day Celebration in April 2018
- Launched our first year of Adopt-A-Spot, a volunteer program for organizations or families to plant flowers and maintain flower beds in our parks and public spaces. More than 33 groups participated throughout our City
2019
- Completed the Myersville/SR619 Roundabout
2020
- First elected City Law Director Lisa Carey Dean took office on January 1, 2020.
- Opened Fire Station #3 at the corner of Mayfair and Raber Roads
- Population: 27,475
- Mayor Gerard Neugebauer declared State of Emergency in Green in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Launched our Parks Ambassador volunteer program
- Green launched Green Together, a volunteer initiative, to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic in our community
- Rachel and Justin Bellis lease the Historic Hartong Farm and begin farming the land as Southgate Farm.
2021
- Completed the two-season Massillon Road North project – an extensive reconstruction of a portion of the road between I-77 to just beyond SR619
- Dedication of the Dick Goddard Dog Park on February 24, 2021
- City of Green employs 155 full and part-time employees.

- Started an Esports league through the Parks Department
