Recreation Programs For Seniors
Green Parks and Recreation offers a variety of programs and activities for active adults 50 and older. We have weekly card games, monthly socials/luncheons, special events and trips throughout the year. The Green Parks and Recreation Division will be offering two bus trips this fall!
Where and When: Thursday, September 15 - Smucker's, The Barn Restaurant, and Lehman's Hardware in Kidron. Friday, November 18 - Christmas Connection at he IX Center in Cleveland.

Join us for tips and tricks to container gardening! This class is presented by our Green Thumbs of Green Gardening Club.

The Green Parks and Recreation Division is offering an introductory cooking class at the Create a nutritious meal by cooking healthy! Led by Chef Matt Crago, class participants will make pan-seared chicken with roasted red pepper puree, lemon zest sugar snap peas, and a quinoa brown rice blend. The class is open to adults of all ages.

The City of Green is pleased to partner with the Green YMCA to offer weekly adult fitness classes geared for active adults age 50 and up.
WHERE: John Torok Senior Center, 4224 Massillon Road
COST: Classes are free; No pre-registration required.

Mondays:
- Barre Connect: 9 am – 9:45 am. A chair-based yoga that focuses on increasing flexibility -- POSTPONED
- Classic: 10 am - 10:45 am. A chair-based class that use hand weights and fitness ball. All equipment provided. -- POSTPONED
- Silver Sneakers Toning: 1 pm - 1:45 pm. Light weights and strength training from a chair or standing. All equipment provided.
Tuesdays:
- Beginner Vinyasa Yoga: 10 am - 10:45 am. Modifications available for all fitness levels. Classes will be held outside during nice weather. Participants should bring their own yoga mat.
Wednesdays:
- Toning: 8:30 am - 9:15 am. Light weights and strength training from a chair or standing.
Thursdays:
- Self-Defense Class: 9 am. - 9:45 am. A fitness class that also teaches self-defense skills.
Learn to create your own greeting cards for friends and family!
When: First Wednesday of Each Month - May 4 through December 7 (5/4, 6/1, 7/6, 8/3, 9/7, 10/5, 11/2, 12/7)

The City of Green Parks and Recreation is pleased to host Knit for the Needy! This group makes afghans and other "warm items" for those in need.
When: Every Tuesday. January and February are weather permitting.
Where: John Torok Community and Senior Center
Time: 1 pm to 3 pm
Cost: Free and open to all!
Yarn will be provided, however, participants will need to bring their own knitting needles and/or crochet hooks.
Items Being Made
Members are encouraged to make any items that they would like, such as:
- Blankets, Gloves, Hats, Mittens, Scarves
- Patterns for various items will also be provided.
Donations
If you cannot attend during this time, the City of Green will still gladly take any donations of completed warm items and/or yarn. Donations can be dropped off at:

The Green Parks and Recreation Division is introducing monthly lunches beginning in May, 2022. These lunches will be the first Tuesday of each month and be held at a local restaurant. Meet at the scheduled restaurant and eat lunch with other Green Seniors! If there is enough interest, we will continue scheduling more restaurants throughout the rest of the year!

Please join us for our 4th annual Senior Expo, sponsored by Summa Health! This is a great way for seniors to discover services and opportunities available to them in the area by meeting with a variety of local businesses, service providers, and other vendors who cater directly to seniors.
Light refreshments will be available for guests and vendors. We will also be giving away prizes throughout the event (must be present to win).

COST: This event is FREE to seniors; No pre-registration required for senior guests.
VENDOR FEES: $25.00 per vendor; pre-registration is required. Click here or call the Parks and Recreation office at 330-896-6621. Fee includes a 6-foot table and 2 chairs. Tablecloths, handouts, etc. must be supplied by the vendors.

Play games and socialize! Games will be provided by the City of Green, the primary game being Mexican Train Dominoes. However, other games will be available to play! Attendees are encouraged to bring a covered dish or snack to share.

Join professional artist, Emily Harsh, for a creative painting event, presented by Devoted Health Plans! Emily will guide you through a step-by-step journey to create a beautiful piece of art. This creative activity is a great way to stimulate brain health, increase mental clarity, and find peace. Non-alcoholic refreshments will be served.

Improve your cardiovascular health, lose weight, tone your body, improve your balance and coordination, feel happy and raise your self-esteem. You’ll have so much fun you won’t even realize you’re working out! Shoes available in class, or bring your own. Sharon Rae, Professional Dance Educator, will be instructing! Classes will take place on Tuesday mornings at the Community Hall at Central Park from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
